GMAT Focus Edition - Things To Know

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) has long been regarded as an essential step for prospective business school students worldwide, serving as a standard for evaluating their readiness for graduate-level business studies. Recently, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) made an announcement that has generated considerable excitement: the introduction of the GMAT Focus Edition 2023. This edition, characterized by its adaptable structure, efficient time management, and insightful scoring system, promises to revolutionize the experience of taking the test. This blog aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the new edition, including its objectives, key features, and the benefits it offers to test-takers.

The forthcoming GMAT Focus Edition presents three sections, each with a duration of 45 minutes. The first section, Quantitative Reasoning, evaluates problem-solving skills, while the second section, Verbal Reasoning, assesses critical reasoning and reading comprehension without sentence correction. The newly developed Data Insights section gauges candidates' competency in data literacy, encompassing the analysis and interpretation of data in real-world business contexts. The following table provides an overview of the sections, including the total number of questions and the overall duration:

Sections Total Questions Total Duration Changes
Quantitative Reasoning 21 45 minutes No Geometry
Verbal Reasoning 23 45 minutes No Sentence Correction
Data Insights 20 45 minutes A new section with Data Sufficiency and Integrated Reasoning questions

In contrast to the current GMAT, which offers three predetermined options for section order, the GMAT Focus Edition grants test-takers the freedom to select the order in which they complete the sections. This change affords candidates the opportunity to tailor their test-taking experience and devise strategies based on their individual strengths.
